Training & Outreach
Between 2008 and 2018, the Centre for Comparative Genomics and Evolutionary Bioinformatics (CGEB) trained >220 undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and research associates from across North America and around the world. ICG carries on with CGEB’s mission by providing a research and training environment that is interdisciplinary, collaborative, inclusive, and collegial. We are recognized internationally for what we do and how we do it.
The ICG is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). As part of this commitment, ICG (i) runs several journal clubs, (ii) hosts a seminar series for speakers with diverse backgrounds and scientific perspectives, and (iii) engages in outreach activities aimed at promoting science literacy and providing opportunities for young Nova Scotians to learn about careers in STEM.
Information about upcoming ICG training and outreach events can be found here.
The MicroScape Program is an inclusive, experiential learning-based science outreach initiative built around exploration of the microbial world. It involves co-development and delivery of microbiology- and genomics-based education content across five streams: 1) public events, 2) high school project-based learning, 3) garden-based camps, 4) teacher professional development, and 5) new classroom workshops. The MicroScape Program is a partnership between the ICG and the Discovery Centre; it is funded by an NSERC Promoscience grant and matching funds from Genome Atlantic.
